Final Analysis
How dark were the Dark Ages really? Not as dark and dreary as many people believe they were. We have decided that even though the Dark Ages had a bad reputation, they were not truly horrible. So much progress was made in that time period.
Without the Dark Ages our society would not be as evolved as it is today. For example, the University. It was not until the Middle Ages that the University emerged. They were schools of higher learning which served as precursors to universities that began in the Byzantine Empire and the Islamic world in the second half of the 9th century. Medieval European universities typically offered degrees in theology, law, medicine, and liberal arts. Another great example is illustrated books. It was in the Middle Ages that it became standard practice to have books with detailed illustrations. These books had elaborate, detailed artwork to go along with the text. These manuscripts are believed to be the forerunners of today's illustrated newspapers and magazines, textbooks, and even websites! And lastly, the implementation of the Magna Carta. It helped us form our Constitution and develop a form of democracy. So contrary to what many people believe, the Dark Ages had a light side.
